Math Pentathlon Volunteer Position Description
What is Math Pentathlon? A motivational program that strengthens basic math concepts and skills, aligns with National State Mathematics Standards, and stimulates creative thinking while developing problem-solving skills. Mentors run a variety of interactive problem-solving games, supportive curricular and instructional activities, and assessment tools for students. For more information, go here.
Key Responsibilities: Attend a 3 hour training session prior to start of program, plan high-impact, engaging activities for students using resources provided by TechPoint Foundation, implement plans and attend weekly Math Pentathlon sessions, and serve as a role model for every student that attends the program.
Time Commitment: One day per week for one hour, with a minimum of one semester. The schedule will follow the school district's break calendar, which will bring the total weeks volunteers will serve to about 10 weeks.
Age Requirement: High School Graduate
Qualifications: Some college and a clear background check
Support: TechPoint Foundation will provide resources to volunteers to help plan activities, assistance in initial facilitation of program if requested, coordination of background checks, and continual help with any problems, concerns, or questions that arise through the duration of the program.
Other Responsibilities: Arrive on time for each session, with 24 hours notice to TechPoint Foundation if you are unable to make a session, communicate with TechPoint Foundation of any problems, concerns, or feedback with the program, submit weekly attendance sheets, maintain confidentiality of information shared by students unless the student's safety or well-being is at risk andthere is suspected child abuse /neglect.
