TechPoint Foundation for Youth is grateful for the organizations and companies that share our passion for positively impacting Indiana's youth. We are specifically highlighting our partner RSM, LLC, and their continued involvement and support of our organization. Below is an interview with our Board Member and Board Treasurer, Jessica Kline- an RSM employee.
RSM US LLP is an audit, tax, and consulting firm focused on serving the middle market. Jessica joined RSM just over 13 years ago. Through her partner, Mike Pottratz’s involvement with the TechPoint Foundation for Youth, Jessica was given the opportunity to serve the organization. RSM encourages and supports community stewardship, and this is evident in their partnership with TPF4Y and the annual Birdies for Love campaign. Each RSM office commits to raising funds for a local organization, and the Indianapolis office has chosen TPF4Y as the recipient of the funds for the second year.
Is there a specific impactful moment you can recall as a board member/ committee member?
I have been involved with the organization since 2016, which was right about the time that the State Robotics Initiative and statewide CoderDojos were started. At one of the board meetings, the Program Committee presented a map of the state of Indiana with markers for each location represented by the Foundation’s programs. It was a moment when I, as well as the rest of the Board, really understood the impact the organization was making not just in central Indiana but throughout the state. We were helping students all throughout the state get access to STEM programming that they may not otherwise have access to. I really understood at that time the impact of TechPoint Foundation for Youth on all Hoosier students.
Why do you feel youth robotics/ STEM education is important?
I think youth robotics and STEM education is critical for innovation, critical thinking, and advancement of the next generation of contributors to our country. As technology continues to play a significant role in our economy and business, we need the next generation to be able to participate and compete in this ever-evolving world.
What inspired you to become involved with TPF4Y?
After meeting with the Executive Director I saw the passion that the staff had for the organization and its mission. Their excitement over the programs and where the organization was headed really inspired me to get involved.
How would you encourage others to involve themselves?
The Foundation offers so many amazing programs that need volunteers. I would encourage anyone to volunteer with one of the programs and see first-hand the impact the Foundation is having on students in our communities.
